My Purpose

Vista College Advising strives to guide students and their families in discovering their best educational fit to ultimately achieve their academic and life goals.

About Ann Ryan

I love research and exploring colleges to see what they offer and how they serve students. I enjoy seeing students discover a program that is perfectly aligned with their interests and goals. My 20+ years as an educator and parent has shown me that EVERY child is different and has unique needs and interests. Figuring out those needs and interests and finding the best educational match for that student may be challenging but so rewarding and exciting for me.

As a homeschool parent of 4, speaker, and educator, I have witnessed education and learning in ways I never imagined. Self directed learning, community service work, dual enrollment college classes, and more have all shaped my students in different ways. I have witnessed students forge their own path and that greatly influenced my interest in working with students to find their best match for college and alternative education options.

I grew up in the Midwest and received my B.S. in Social Work, studied Youth and Human Service Administration, and worked in non profit administration for 10 years. I have also completed the Independent Educational Consultant (IEC) program through the University of California, Irvine and continue learning through professional organizations and conferences to stay up to date on current trends and institutional changes.

I currently live in California. When not working with students you can often find me exploring local tidepools or reading a book from my ever growing “to read” pile.
